Illinois: Glenview appoints new director.


Glenview Glenview, village (1990 pop. 37,093), Cook co., NE Ill., a growing suburb of Chicago; settled 1833, inc. 1899. There is varied light industry. Peacock Prairie, a center for important botanical research, is nearby.  Park District Board of Commissioners recently named Charles T. Balling as its executive director. Balling comes to the position from the Gurnee Park District, where he was executive director there for nine years. He will succeed Tom Richardson Tom Richardson (born August 11, 1870, Byfleet, Surrey; died July 2, 1912, ChambĂ©ry, France) was one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time and certainly the most prolific in terms of wicket-taking feats, largely owing to his amazing stamina and appetite for work, which allowed , who will retire from the district after 15 years.

At Gurnee, Balling was responsible for 24 park sites and more than 300 acres, which includes the Viking Park Viking Park is a 4,000 capacity stadium (2,000 seated) in Canberra, Australia. It has a rectangular playing surface which is used to host rugby union matches. It is home to the Tuggeranong Vikings and all matches in the ACT rugby finals are played here.  Community Center, the Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center and the Hunt Club Park Community Center currently under construction. During his tenure, Gurnee Park District received the 2004 NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association

 Excellence in Aquatics Award, as well as the 2002 Illinois Illinois, river, United States
Illinois, river, 273 mi (439 km) long, formed by the confluence of the Des Plaines and Kankakee rivers, NE Ill., and flowing SW to the Mississippi at Grafton, Ill. It is an important commercial and recreational waterway.
 Park and Recreation Association Outstanding Facility Award.

His past experience also includes serving as the director of Leisure Services for the Elmhurst and Homewood-Flossmoor Park Districts as well as a program manager for the Naperville Park District.

Balling says he is very excited about starting his new job on March 6 and is looking forward to working as a team with the Glenview Park Board, staff and community, to continue the tradition of excellence at the Glenview Park District.
