Ignored. (Dear Highlights).

Whenever company comes to our house, all they say to me is "Hi." Then they go directly to my baby sisters and brother and don't pay attention to me. Can you help?

Brooke L., Kansas

Being the oldest sibling is tough sometimes. People expect you to act more like an adult, but they don't always treat you that way. It is understandable that you feel left out.

Although you can't demand attention from your guests, you can certainly make them feel welcome. You might ask your parents if you can help prepare snacks or straighten the house before they arrive. Greet your guests at the door with a smile and ask if you can hang up their coats. Then help serve the snacks and clean up. As long as you are busy helping out, you may be less bothered by the attention that your brother and sisters receive.
