If Only. (Poetry by Our Readers).

If Only

   If only I could awaken
to the sweet song of birds,
To smell the soft scent of flowers,
   too beautiful for words.
Then to dash through the forest
   and find a stream,
   Sip its fresh water,
without a care to be seen.
I could bask in the warm sun,
   the whole day long,
Then gaze at the evening stars,
   and drift into song.
I would howl with the wolves,
   at the clear, crescent moon,
   Then drift into sleep,
   still humming a tune.
