Idol talk.

I am once again extremely disappointed with whom you chose to put on the cover of your magazine ["American Idol's Big Gay Closet," April 24]. In this issue, probably your most important article involved a group of GLBT GLBT Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered  veterans who decided to boldly come out in response to [Gen. Peter] Pace's homophobic comments. Another great article involved the lead singer of Savage Garden's coming-out story. And who did you decide to put on the cover? Some guy from American Idol American Idol is an annual American televised singing competition, which began its first season on June 11, 2002. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the British reality program Pop Idol.  who allegedly sexually harassed some dude. And even you couldn't turn that into a full-page story--it was an inset! Come on! This just goes way beyond the "pretty face" cover BS. Why can't you guys have more faith in your readers? Do you still think that if your cover person isn't some handsome guy or hot chick, we'll refuse to read it? You're a newsmagazine, right? So treat yourselves like a newsmagazine and put people on your cover who deserve to be there, whether they're hot or not.

Why is there never any talk about the women of American Idol who might be gay? Perhaps you could hook us up with a story on that. And why does Mario Vazquez This biographical article or section needs additional references for verification.

As I have been receiving your mag for two years, I have to say sadly that the content gets more sophomoric soph·o·mor·ic
adj.
1. Of or characteristic of a sophomore.

2. Exhibiting great immaturity and lack of judgment: sophomoric behavior.
. Seriously, your focus on American Idol and who's out and who's not is mundane. Please rethink what you want to be and when you will be it. Personally, I feel your mag should dwell a little more on how gays and lesbians will learn to be out, learn to defend themselves not only physically but emotionally. I feel the youth culture is promoted too heavily and that being gay should be respected more, not shown to be ridiculous. Focus on some success stories of regular people, offer solutions to gay and lesbian people who are lost in the culture, and step up and take responsible journalism to a new level. Our present culture is childish, self-absorbed, and ends when a person turns 40. Rethink what you present as important.
