for the UK Passport Service Six-Month Biometric Pilot

) to provide the technology for the UKPS six-month trial of biometric enrollment. SchlumbergerSema is the information technology (IT) business segment of Schlumberger Limited.

SchlumbergerSema selected Identix as its sub-contractor to provide fingerprint imaging and facial matching technologies for the pilot program.

The use of biometric technologies for the UKPS pilot project conforms with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), specialized agency of the United Nations, organized in 1947, with headquarters at Montreal. ). The trial will take six months beginning in January 2004. During this time 10,000 volunteers will be enrolled and receive personalized demonstration smart cards Example of widely used contactless smart cards are Hong Kong's Octopus card, Paris' Calypso/Navigo card and Lisbon' LisboaViva card, which predate the ISO/IEC 14443 standard. The pilot will test collection and verification of a facial recognition biometric. The pilot will also test fingerprint and iris pattern biometrics enrollment and verification.
