:IDX (IDX Systems Corporation, South Burlington, VT, www.idx.com) One of the largest health care information systems companies in the country, acquired in 2006 by GE Healthcare (www.gehealthcare.com), a unit of the General Electric Company. ), a worldwide leader in providing live-scan and biometric verification systems, announced today that it has partnered with several technology companies to provide a smart card-based, biometric secured ATM solution to Groupo Financiero Banorte, a leading financial concern in Mexico.

Mexico's 600-branch Groupo Financiero Banorte has installed an electronic banking system, called CardStore, utilizing a smart card to store payroll information and a fingerprint to protect that information. The solution will potentially reach the vast majority of Mexican citizens who have no bank accounts. The system capitalizes on the close relationships among small-town factories (maquiladora ma·qui·la·do·ra

), their employees, and the general stores that serve them. Currently over 4,000 workers are participating in the project and over $2.5 million have been dispersed by the ATMs during the pilot.

Identix's IT Security Division, Identicator Technology, Inc., partnered with the Victor, NY-based NetLink Transactions Systems Corp. to incorporate Identicator's Direct Fingerprint Reader A scanner used to identify a person's fingerprint for security purposes. The fingerprint, stored on the smart card, replaces passwords and PIN numbers for the worker's convenience and adds security, since it cannot be used by anyone else. The MetaCard, provided by Reston, VA-based Giesecke & Devrient America, is a multi-application smart card that will serve more than 650,000 Mexican workers by the year 2001. The card incorporates reloadable payroll and retail coupons, which can be redeemed by employees at grocery stores and ATMs.

"This is another great utilization of our technology in an ATM/POS environment," said Randy Fowler, Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Sill. We are excited to work with such an esteemed cadre of companies," Fowler continued.

The technology is currently being used to provide employees secure and convenient access to cash from their paychecks. At the beginning of the work shift, an employee inserts a smart card in an electronic reader and places a finger on a fingerprint scanner to authenticate the user to the card. This enables employers to collect time and attendance information for payroll purposes. At the end of the pay period, employees can retrieve cash from an ATM, which dispenses pesos, using the smart card. The same card works at the cafeteria in the factory and retail stores nearby the factory.

Identicator's fingerprint technology was chosen as the most desirable biometric system in a competitive pilot study of nine biometric technologies conducted by NetLink. "Identicator's technology was the fastest, most accurate and easy to use biometric of the products tested in the field," said Don Sweet, president of NetLink Transaction Systems. "We are excited about Identicator's technology because it enables us to work with our commercial customers to provide individuals with immediate and secure access to their funds at their site of employment," said Prudencio Frigolet, Vice President of Banorte.

"By embedding account balance, transaction history and fingerprint data on the smart card, customers can quickly and easily withdraw cash from their place of employment.
