IdentityMinder. (Internet Focus).


This release of Netegrity IdentityMinder technology integrates user administration and resource provisioaing for Web and enterprise applications to enable organisations to manage identities across the enterprise. Using a single identity infrastructure across the organisation, companies can streamline the creation, modification, and deletion of user identities, create entitlement and security policies, and enforce those policies across a broad range of applications and systems.

Organisations are faced with managing an expanding population of users accessing a growing and heterogeneous mix of applications, such as Web applications, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer. , CRM (Customer Relationship Management) An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. , mainframes, email, databases, and directories, all with silos of user identities that need to be managed. Historically, the user administration and provisioning for these systems have been managed separately, resulting in high administrative costs, reduced business agility, and increased security vulnerabilities.

Key new features of IdentityMinder include:

* Integrated password management capabilities that enable self-service password reset Self-service password reset is defined as any process or technology that allows users who have either forgotten their password or triggered an intruder lockout to authenticate with an alternate factor, and repair their own problem, without calling the help desk.  and password synchronisation across all target resources.

* Role-based access control The identification, authentication and authorization of individuals based on their job titles within an organization. Contrast with mandatory access control and discretionary access control. See least privilege.  and administration integrated with Netegrity SiteMinder technology to provide efficiency and automation for granting of entitlements and administrative delegation.

* Rules-based engine that facilitates provisioning to business resources including LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) A protocol used to access a directory listing. LDAP support is implemented in Web browsers and e-mail programs, which can query an LDAP-compliant directory.  and other directories, databases, ERP and CRM applications.

* Auditing and reporting capabilities that collect, structure, and present detailed in formation regarding changes to user identities. For example, management reports can be created to determine who has specific capabilities. Who possesses the help desk administrative role and audit reports created to determine who performed which tasks and when.

* Customisable workflows, including approvals and notifications, that help to streamline previously time-intensive processes such as creating and managing user profiles, into efficient and repeatable business processes.

* Standards based J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) A platform from Sun for building distributed enterprise applications. J2EE services are performed in the middle tier between the user's machine and the enterprise's databases and legacy information systems.  architecture that supports leading application servers including BEA WebLogic, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  WebSphere, and JBoss.
