Idemitsu Kosan Develops Blue and Green Organic EL Material that Boasts Longer Life.


Tokyo, Japan, Oct 21, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Idemitsu Kosan has developed an organic electroluminescence (EL) material with a longer life which emits blue and green light.

The company has revised the molecular structure of the material to achieve a luminance The amount of brightness, measured in lumens, that is given off by a pixel or area on a screen. For example, dark red and bright red would have the same chrominance, but a different luminance.  efficiency of 9cd/A, 30% higher than the company's existing material, and a brightness half-life of 23,000 hours (a threshold luminance of 1,000cd/m2), 130% longer, in emitting blue light which most affects the display's power consumption and life.

In emitting green light, the material achieves a brightness half-life of 100,000 hours (a threshold luminance of 1,000cd/m2), 150% longer.

The company will start sample shipment in April 2006. This development will be presented at FPD (1) (Flat Panel Display) See LCD, plasma display, EL display, FED and flat panel display.

(2) (Field Programmable Device) An umbrella term for all chips that can be programmed by the customer including SPLDs, CPLDs and FPGAs. See PLD.
 International 2005 held at Pacifico Yokohama from October 19 to 21.
