The tool is based on Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD), an advanced application of TRIZ (the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving). AFD's benefits have been compared to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazards and Operations Analysis (HAZOP), and other methods used by quality, reliability, manufacturing, R&D, and safety professionals.
