IXYS Announces New RF Power Amplifiers for WiFi and Emerging WiMax Applications.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- IXYS Corporation (Nasdaq:SYXI) announced that its subsidiary, Microwave Technology, Inc. (MwT), has introduced two high linearity RF power amplifier products for 802.11 WiFi and the emerging 802.16 WiMax base station applications. E[acute accent]The first power amplifier product is the WPS-495922-02. It operates in the 4.9 to 5.9GHz band with 11dB gain and 32dBm output power at a 1dB compression point. Based on MwT's proprietary high linearity GaAs FET technology, this power amplifier achieves superior Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) performance of 2.5% at 26dBm output power level driven by a WiMax test signal (256 carriers and 64 QAM). The EVM performance also includes 1.6% of accumulated errors from the modulator and driver stages. The adjacent channel power ratio, ACPR, is less than -40dBc at 25dBm average output power and the third-order intercept point, IP3, is as high as 47dBm at 22dBm output power per tone. WPS-495922-02 is pre-matched to 50 ohms for easy cascade. The WPS-495922-02 is packaged in a low cost surface mount LLC package. The package is lead free, and has a proprietary copper alloy based pallet for good thermal conductivity. E[acute accent]The second product is an LDMOS based power amplifier, the WSP-2527LD5-9 that operates over the 2.5 to 2.7GHz band with 10dB gain and 37dBm output power at a 1dB compression point. This power amplifier achieves a high efficiency of 40% and superior EVM performance of 2.5% at 33dBm output power level driven by a WiMax test signal (256 carriers and 64 QAM). The ACPR is less than -40dBc at 33dBm average output power and the third-order intercept point, IP3, is 50dBm at 33dBm output power per tone. WPS-2527LD5-98 is pre-matched to 50 ohms with input and output load impedance then greater 10 ohms. WSP-2527LD5-98 is packaged in an industry standard metal flange package with excellent heat sinking properties.
