The partnership is part of ITWomen's Role Models Speakers Initiative, focused on providing educational sessions regarding the opportunities that exist for young women interested in learning about new career directions in the field of technology. ITWomen has the opportunity to reach more than 1,100 children in South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) and more than 400 from Miami-Dade County's poorest neighborhoods. Take Stock in Children organizers recognize that information technology is a high growth market, which is why the organization partnered with ITWomen. ITWomen will provide role models drawn from the organization's member base to participate at key events this year, including an upcoming Industry Information Technology camp scheduled for July 17-21, 2006. Through this contract they commit to meet with a mentor weekly, stay drug/alcohol free, produce grades which are average or above, remain crime free, attend school, and display a strong responsibility to their neighborhoods and schools. In return, Take Stock in Children recruits and trains mentors to motivate students to achieve academic success and model social, coping and life skills. Further, the organization commits to pay for college upon successful completion of high school.
