ITRONIX INTRODUCES DUO-TOUCH TABLET PC.

Itronix Corp., has introduced the Duo-Touch Tablet PC, a next-generation, portable, wireless, rugged slate tablet PC for mobile professionals in industries such as telecommunications, utilities, government, and insurance. The Duo-Touch feature updates include the Intel Pentium M processor 733 from Intel Corporation, integrated GPS, more memory, a brighter display, and a more rugged case. The name "Duo- Touch" refers to the new dual-mode touch panel, which provides both a passive touch screen and standard digitizer, or "active," touch screen.

The Duo-Touch Tablet PC is based on the Intel Pentium M processor 733 and the Mobile Intel 915GM Express Chipset, making it faster than the original GoBook Tablet PC. As a result, the system also delivers better performance without compromising battery life, as well as superior thermal management. The Duo-Touch utilizes the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, making the Duo-Touch extremely user-friendly to field workers already familiar with the XP operating system.

"Keyspan's requirements for the Itronix Duo-Touch were specific to improving the productivity of our field technicians -- we wanted a tablet PC built with superior wireless capabilities, integrated GPS for computer aided dispatch and GIS applications, a heated hard drive to withstand extremely cold northeast winters, a lightweight and smaller device that would take up less space in a vehicle, and a dual mode touchscreen for ease of use," said Edward Ehmer, senior project manager,

Keyspan. "After evaluating the Duo-Touch for several months, we're very pleased with how it has performed and expect it to become a vital tool that enhances our technicians' efficiency in the field, whether they are doing electrical or gas service, complex construction or emergency-response work."

In addition to faster speed and better performance, the Duo-Touch includes the following enhancements over its predecessor, including:

- a memory boost and better video processing power with up to 1280MB of DDR SDRAM and 128MB of shared video RAM;

- an optional integrated GPS receiver, enabling real-time location of field personnel and assets, making the Duo-Touch an even more efficient tool for field personnel;

- capability to integrate up to four radios into the same unit (WWAN, WLAN Bluetooth, and GPS);

- "dual-mode" touch panel, which provides a passive touch screen to users in addition to the standard digitizer touch screen;

- brighter, easier-to-view display, especially in outdoor environments;

- an all magnesium case for better RF performance, drop/shock durability and user experience;

- an external WWAN antenna switch for improved radio performance in vehicles;

- optional hard-drive heater that extends cold start-up conditions as low as -20 degrees Celsius.

Some tried and true features of the GoBook Tablet PC will be maintained for the Duo-Touch including the ergonomic design and form factor. The Duo-Touch's ergonomic footprint and light weight design, weighing in at 3.9 pounds, optimizes it for the mobile user. As with the original GoBook Tablet PC, extreme climate changes such as rain, snow, wind, dust, vibration, shock and chemical exposure will not hinder its performance. It was designed for exposure to the elements including temperatures ranging from -20 degrees to 60 degrees C (-4 degrees to 140 degrees F). The Duo-Touch is also backward compatible with most GoBook Tablet PC peripherals and accessories, including the desk mount and vehicle cradles.

"Mobile field professionals who require the portability of a tablet PC, durability of a ruggedized computer, and seamless connectivity, now have another option without compromising power and performance," said Rose Schooler, general manager, Infrastructure Processor Division, Intel Corporation. "The new Duo-Touch Tablet PC, based on the Intel Pentium M processor 733 and the Mobile Intel 915GM Express Chipset, delivers solid performance in a wireless, ruggedized tablet."

In a Wireless Class of Its Own -- Up to Four Radios, with High Performance GPS

Like the Itronix GoBook III wireless laptop, launched in September 2004, the Duo-Touch has been designed with integrated wireless communications that can concurrently support up to three different wireless networks, including 802.11b/g (wireless LAN), Bluetooth, and wireless WAN technologies such as 1x EVDO (with EVDO approval anticipated in July) and GPRS/EDGE. In addition, the Duo-Touch supports an (optional) integrated high-performance, 12-channel GPS receiver (featuring the same high performance quadrifilar Helix antenna used on the GoBook III) to enable real-time, accurate location capture for applications such as automated vehicle location (AVL), vehicle routing and mapping, and field asset management. The comprehensive wireless support, complemented by Itronix's MobilityXE wireless roaming mobility software, enables a mobile worker to maintain uninterrupted wireless connectivity and communication while roaming between networks in mobile applications.

Key to the Duo-Touch's wireless integration design is its unique Common Radio Module Architecture (CRMA), which enables users to easily and cost effectively upgrade to new wireless technologies as they become available, safeguarding the user's investment. In addition, Itronix's suite of products is certified by most of the major national carriers' networks. In fact, the Itronix GoBook II and GoBook III computers are the only wireless, rugged laptops currently certified to operate over the Cingular Wireless EDGE network.

"The first GoBook Tablet PC was designed specifically with the field worker's need in mind -- to always stay connected and maximize productivity. The Duo-Touch enhancements offer those field workers a better, faster and more efficient wireless, rugged slate tablet to conduct business," said Matt Gerber, senior vice president of product line management, Itronix. "Many of the improvements to the Duo-Touch were implemented based on feedback we received from our valued customers. We are proud of what the Duo-Touch offers, in terms of efficiency and instant access to important information, and less duplicated work between the field and the office, to our customers for all of their wireless, mobile computing needs."

Implementation Services

To ensure end-user satisfaction and provide companies with a single source for service and support, the Duo-Touch Tablet PC is backed by Itronix's iCare Implementation programs. The best end-to-end life cycle support available in the mobile computing industry, the iCare Implementation programs include project consulting, workforce management, application development, training, comprehensive deployment programs and help desk support, all designed to maximize mobile workforce productivity.
