ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 2003

The Information Technology Association of America See ITAA.  (ITAA (Information Technology Association of America, Arlington, VA, www.itaa.org) Formerly the Association of Data Processing Service Organizations (ADAPSO). A membership organization founded in 1960 that defines performance standards, improves management methods and monitors government ) today joined the Aerospace Industries Association and the National Defense Industrial Association in a letter to House Small Business Committee Chairman Donald Manzullo to voice its concern over provisions in H.R. 1588, the Defense Authorization bill, which may harm small businesses.

The letter, co-signed by the three association Presidents, was prompted by the last minute announcement of a Committee hearing to be held on July 9th on H.R. 1588, and included a request to be submitted as part of the written record, along with a paper outlining the impacts of the bill on small businesses.

"Compliance by small IT companies with proposed country-of-origin requirements in H.R. 1588 is nearly inconceivable on many critically important IT products," said ITAA President Harris N. Miller.

"So-called 'Buy American' provisions included in the House version of the Defense Authorization bill would have far-reaching negative consequences for IT producers and the US government customer. They must be removed from the final version. Our military deserves to have the highest quality tools to fight wars and terrorism, and they deserve to have them in their hands in short order," Miller added.
