IT ADDS UP TO A CINCO DE MAYO FIESTA PERFECTA!

Byline: Fred Shuster

Guess what? We've got another excuse for a party.

Cinco de Mayo Cinco de Mayo

(Spanish; “Fifth of May”)

Mexican holiday commemorating the Mexican victory over the French at Puebla in 1862. The French army, better-equipped and far larger than the Mexican army, had been sent by Napoleon III to conquer Mexico.

Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , of course, has a ton of Cinco de Mayo events, including family ones, to choose from. And surprisingly, as Santa Clarita-based mariachi singer Noe Sandoval points out, America is even more committed to Fifth of May partying than Mexico is.

"Here, everyone knows the day and everyone celebrates," said Sandoval, 36, who performs with the Mariachi Latino band at 5 p.m. Saturday at this weekend's big fiesta bash on Olvera Street Olvera Street is in the oldest part of Downtown Los Angeles, California, and is otherwise known as the birthplace of the City of Angels or El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument and is a department within the city.  downtown. "You don't have to be from Mexico to celebrate it here. What I like about it is, every bar and restaurant has specials on that day and everyone knows about it."

One special event on this day is the pay-per-view broadcast of the Oscar De La Hoya Oscar de la Hoya (IPA pronunciation: [ˈɑs.kɛɹ dɛ.lɑ.ˈhɔɪ.jɑ][1]) (born February 4, 1973) — nicknamed the Golden Boy  vs. Floyd Mayweather Floyd Mayweather is the name of two persons, father and son:

The bout between the two boxing superstars and former Olympians is expected to shatter records. Yankee Doodle's in Woodland Hills (21870 Victory Blvd.) is airing it (for a cover of $20 per person).

Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican Independence Day, but it's celebrated like it is. On this day in 1862, a tiny army of 4,000 brave Mexican soldiers smashed French occupational forces at Puebla, Mexico. The Mexican forces were outnumbered three to one.

Today, the day is a music-filled party celebrating freedom, liberty and heritage. And although the battle of Puebla Noun 1. Battle of Puebla - a battle in which Mexican forces defeated the French in 1862

"It's one of our biggest days of the year," said Bernadette O'Rourke, a co-owner of Mexicali, the hip Studio City watering hole. "We have a line out the door starting in the afternoon and it just stays busy all night. It's a great night for a party."

Along with its popular line of tequila drinks, Mexicali offers mariachi music to go along with Saturday's music mix.

"Mariachi has remained authentic over all these years," said Sandoval, who is originally from Mexico City Mexico City
