IT'S NOT SUCH A GOLDEN WEEK.

For a few days this week, it looked like Mosley was going to get his shot at another world title when Golden Boy Promotions Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. is a boxing promotional firm started by former world champion in six weight divisions, Oscar de la Hoya, whose nickname is The Golden Boy. Superstars Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley have also joined the firm.  sent out a press release Wednesday that said Mosley would be challenging Kermit Cintron Kermit Cintron (born October 22, 1979) is a Puerto Rican boxer who is from Carolina. But Friday, that fight fell apart. Richard Schaefer, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Cintron had signed the contract to fight Mosley under the banner of Bobby Bostick Promotions of Palm Beach, Fla.

Meanwhile, Schaefer and Golden Boy are still embroiled em·broil

Schaefer was understandably disappointed in the sequence of events surrounding the now-dead Mosley-Cintron fight.

``Just before Christmas, Bobby Bostick confirmed to HBO Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)

and to us that we have a fight,'' Schaefer said. ``Emanuel Steward (Cintron's trainer) was instrumental in making the fight happen. He was very pleased the fight was happening.

``I actually talked to him. He said, `Well, now that the fight is done, I have to tell you I think Mosley is going to lose.' I said, `Obviously, we feel differently, but that's what makes it an interesting fight.' We circulated a press release and everything was cool.''

Then came word everything was not cool. After the release went out, Schaefer said Main Events filed a lawsuit against Cintron and Bostick.

``I think they have certain rights,'' Schaefer said of Main Events, which had promoted Cintron for some time. ``Cintron and Bostick, they find themselves in a bunch of legal issues that unfortunately nobody had disclosed to us or to HBO.''

Schaefer said Friday in the past 24 hours, he had given Cintron and Bostick a chance to rectify the situation, but they could not.

Schaefer said that he does have a new opponent for Mosley, but he would not say who he is for the record because he wants to make sure it is a 100 percent solid deal before going public. He did say that the date and site would remain the same, and that HBO would still be televising the fight. It would not be a title fight, however.

As for Pacquiao, he recently signed promotional contracts with both Golden Boy and Top Rank, Golden Boy's chief rival.

Schaefer has filed a lawsuit against Top Rank in Los Angeles, and Bob Arum of Top Rank has filed a counter suit in Nevada, where his company is based.

Pacquiao, at a news conference in his native Philippines this week, said that he would prefer to go with Top Rank. Arum arum, common name for the Araceae, a plant family mainly composed of species of herbaceous terrestrial and epiphytic plants found in moist to wet habitats of the tropics and subtropics; some are native to temperate zones.  had flown to the Philippines and was with Pacquaio when he made the declaration at the Manila Hotel.

``We promise you and all the Filipino people that what we are going to do for Manny Manny may refer to:

Schaefer said it is still being decided where this case will be heard -- in Los Angeles or Nevada. Pacquiao stopped Barrera in the 11th round in November 2003. A March 17 pay-per-view date has been set aside for that fight, which would take place at MGM MGM

Grand in Las Vegas. Schaefer has an idea how that fight can be made while the rights for Pacquiao are being decided.

``Bob Arum is not the promoter of Manny Pacquiao,'' Schaefer said. ``That is currently the subject of the litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute.

. And we will see who will be the promoter of Manny Pacquiao. Having said that, if Pacquiao really wants to fight, we don't want to be in Pacquiao's way, and we don't want to be in Barrera's way, either.

``So we would suggest, and we would be open to, Golden Boy being the promoter of the fight because we obviously are the promoter of Barrera and we believe we will be the promoter of Pacquiao as well once everything is said and done. But let the fight go on, Golden Boy will promote the fight, and we will put the money into an escrow account until such time that the courts decide who is the legal promoter of Manny Pacquiao.''

Just another day in boxing.

Life imitates art for DiBella

Promoter Lou DiBella had not done any acting since the seventh grade when he performed in a school play at Our Lady of Refuge in his native Brooklyn, N.Y.

So to play himself in the recently released ``Rocky Balboa'' was quite a kick. He said that being part of what has become a legendary series of six movies was unforgettable. In the movie, which is getting better-than- expected reviews, he is the promoter for Rocky's adversary, Mason Dixon, who is played by former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver.

``That was an amazing experience,'' said DiBella, who promotes, among others, middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. ``Honestly, watching it was almost emotional because I was 15years old, and I see Rocky I and that, and growing up on Muhammad Ali, were probably the twobiggest influences in me getting into boxing.

``And to see yourself up on a big screen and you are playing yourself in the last installment of the Rocky saga and it turns out to be like a good movie, yeah, it blew my mind. The experience of going through it, working with (Rocky actor Sylvester) Stallone and working with a crew and a cast and being on camera on a feature film, it was a great experience.''

That the Rocky Balboa character is overcoming the death of his wife makes the movie something many can relate to, DiBella said.

``It was such a strong message movie,'' DiBella said. ``Everyone in life gets knocked down. Everyone's an underdog. Some people are born underdogs and have a lot more to overcome. But you go through suffering with the loss of a loved one, a parent or a child, or you lose your job or you go broke.

``There is something in everyone's life that has them an underdog. And it's just a matter of whether you get up and if you get up, whether you move forward. Very reminiscent of the first (Rocky movie). It really tugged at you.''

Orginally, the character of Dixon's promoter was supposed to be named Robert Brown, but that changed early on.

``When we started filming, Sly said to me, `What do you think about playing yourself?''' DiBella said. ``And I said, `It sounds good to me.' I guess playing myself was something I could do confidently.

``It kind of took the edge off because I wasn't thinking of myself as a fictitious promoter. I was thinking of myself like, `How would I run this press conference? What would I say here?'''
