IT'S NO CARROT FESTIVAL.

Byline: Jocelyn Cahir Staff Writer

AS IF BAKING in the desert sun for one day isn't enough. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella) is a three-day (formerly a one or two-day) annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California.  and its promoters are hoping fans will do it for two days. Rarely do festival-goers even consider this, but it's hard to choose only one day from this year's lineup.

The Empire Polo Field and its vast 78 acres will be filled with an average of 35,000 people on Saturday and Sunday to catch a glimpse Verb 1. catch a glimpse - see something for a brief time

In its third year, the Coachella Fest has undergone many changes. The inaugural Coachella Fest came through Indio in October 1999. It brought an estimated 33,000 fans for a two-day event that included performances by Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Ben Harper, Morrissey, Jane's Addiction frontman front·man

Apparently, promoters didn't have enough strength to bring it back in 2000, but after a one-year absence it returned to Indio in 2001 as a one-day event one-day event

with performances by Jane's Addiction, Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Weezer, Iggy Pop, Mos Def, Ozomatli and more.

Now back in its true two-day form, Coachella brings an eclectic lineup.

Saturday's headliner is Bjork - famous for her swan dress - whose latest album, ``Vespertine ves·per·tine   also ves·per·ti·nal

The remaining lineup Saturday includes performances by Chemical Brothers, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sasha and Digweed, Groove Armada, Cake, Jack Johnson, Pete Yorn, Jurassic 5, Beta Band, Charlatans UK, Queens of the Stone Age, KRS-One, Pharcyde, Citizen Cope and more.

Sunday's headliner is Oasis, one of the few remaining bands of the mid-'90s Manchester scene (others included the Stone Roses, Charlatans UK and Inspiral Carpets). The band's leaders, Noel and Liam Gallagher, have made quite a name for themselves as squabbling siblings through the years.

They have a new album due in July, ``Heathen Chemistry.'' It features 11 new songs by the Gallaghers with new band members Gem Archer (guitar) and Andy Bell (bass). Oasis plans a tour supporting the album later this year.

Sunday's bill also includes Prodigy, Foo Fighters, the Strokes, Paul Oakenfold, Mos Def, BT, Ozomatli, Zero 7, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Saves the Day, Dilated dilated
