INGLEWOOD -- Ashkal Way and jockey Garrett Gomez kicked off Hollywood Park's Turf Festival on Friday with a huge finishing kick in the $400,000 Citation Handicap The Citation Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses usually set at a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles on the turf for horses three-years-old and up. The race is held annually at Hollywood Park Racetrack, but was not run in 2005 because of a hiatus on grass racing at .

Ashkal Way's victory made Gomez a double stakes winner. Gn. Group Meeting ($18.40) carried Gomez to victory in the Cat's Cradle Handicap on the main track.

The Turf Festival continues today with Hucking Hot (Victor Espinoza) favored in the Miesque, for 2-year-old fillies, and In Summation (Jose Valdivia Jr.) favored in the Hollywood Turf Express. Sunday's Matriarch and Hollywood Derby are Grade I's.

At Bay Meadows, Russell Baze went winless with three mounts and remained six wins from Laffit Pincay's lifetime-victories record of 9,530. Baze is scheduled to ride seven horses today at the San Mateo track.

At Churchill Downs, Premium Tap ($5.60) won the Clark Handicap with Kent Desormeaux by 7(bul) lengths in a stakes-record 1:.39 for 1 1/8 miles to validate his third-place finish at 27-1 in the Breeders' Cup Classic The Breeders' Cup Classic is a Grade 1 Weight for Age thoroughbred horse race for 3 years old and older run at a distance of 1ΒΌ miles (2012 m) on dirt. It is held annually at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup.  behind Invasor and Bernardini.
