ISSYS & KEM to Present Methanol Concentration Sensor Posters at Two Upcoming Fuel Cell Conferences.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Integrated Sensing Systems, Inc. (ISSYS ISSYS Integrated Sensing Systems ) in Ypsilanti, Michigan, announced today that it will have poster presentations at the upcoming Fuel Cell Summit 2005, http://www.fuelcellsummit.com held on October 24th in Unicasville, CT and at the Fuel Cell Durability Conference, http://www.knowledgefoundation.com/ held on December 8-9, 2005 in Washington DC.

The posters will cover the small methanol concentration sensors under development, targeting the active Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Direct-methanol fuel cells or DMFCs are a subcategory of proton-exchange fuel cells where, the fuel, methanol (CH3OH), is not reformed, but fed directly to the fuel cell.  (DMFC DMFC Direct Methanol Fuel Cell ) market. ISSYS is working with Japanese based, Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing Company (KEM) on this project http://www.kyoto-kem.com/top.html. These small sensors can also be utilized in a variety of other industrial and analytical applications for the need of a low-cost, accurate, small, inline density or chemical concentration sensors.

ISSYS' sensors are based on Micro ElectroMechanical The use of electricity to run moving parts. Disk drives, printers and motors are examples. Electromechanical systems must be designed for the eventual deterioration of moving components that wear over time. The first TVs were electromechanical systems (see video/TV history).  System (MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems) Tiny mechanical devices that are built onto semiconductor chips and are measured in micrometers. In the research labs since the 1980s, MEMS devices began to materialize as commercial products in the mid-1990s. ) technology. This microfluidic technology offers advantages in system and sample size, cost and reliability over current approaches to fluidic flu·id·ic

The use of a methanol concentration sensor is essential for the practical application of a variety of DMFC technologies. Currently ISSYS' technology offers the only efficient solution for the DMFC application, particularly due to its outstanding accuracy, stability and potential low cost. Furthermore, unlike previous methanol concentration sensors, ISSYS' products operate over a wide temperature range and are not sensitive to chemical impurities.
