ISSC SIGNS OUTSOURCING CONTRACT WITH HARVEST FOODS SUPERMARKETS
TARRYTOWN, N.Y., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrated Systems Solutions Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of IBM (NYSE: IBM), and Harvest Foods of Little Rock, Ark., today announced the signing of a long-term outsourcing agreement that is expected to result in new and enhanced services for the supermarket's customers.
Harvest Foods operates 54 grocery stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
"ISSC's experience in applying advanced technology in supermarkets will allow Harvest Foods stores to serve customers better, improve ordering and stocking of merchandise, and provide highly accurate forecasting of future needs for each store," said Robert M. Rough, chief financial officer of Harvest Foods. "We expect to be on the cutting edge of retail technology and far ahead of our competition."
The agreement calls for ISSC to assume responsibility for Harvest Foods' data center operations, data network and application programming. ISSC also will provide a broad range of information support and services to Harvest Foods grocery stores. By using improved store management applications, the supermarket expects to grow its leadership position in food retailing in the region.
"Harvest Foods has been a partner with IBM for a long time," said Joe Benarie, the ISSC executive responsible for providing specialized outsourcing to the retail and distribution industries. "We look forward to working with their information technology employees, all of whom will receive offers to join ISSC under the agreement.
"Outsourcing agreements enable companies to concentrate on their core business while we make sure they are provided with state-of-the-art information technology," said Benarie. "It also lets them capitalize on our retail know-how and experience in delivering data processing solutions to stores and corporate headquarters."
