ISRAEL - July 27 - Sharon's Son Faces Campaign Charges.
Omri Sharon, the son of PM Ariel Sharon, faces charges related to
fraud and breach of trust following a three-year investigation into his
father's political campaign funding. The Justice ministry, which
claimed the charges, has another month to continue attempts towards a
plea bargain before deciding whether to continue legal proceedings, a
spokeswoman said. The attorney-general Menachem Mazuz, earlier this year
cleared Ariel Sharon in the case, in which shell companies are alleged
to have been formed to receive foreign donations for his campaign in the
1999 Likud leadership elections. Charges against the PM and two senior
advisers were dropped for lack of evidence.
