ISLAND OF LANA'I WELCOMES NEW HAWAIIAN AIRLINES JET SERVICE

ISLAND OF LANA'I, Hawaii, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Lana'i island residents and visitor industry operators welcomed the news that Hawaiian Airlines has scheduled DC-9 jet service from Honolulu, Kahului and Kona beginning Tuesday, Feb. 16, with additional Dash-7 service to/from Honolulu and Kahului on Fridays and Sundays.
The new daily afternoon service, which departs Honolulu at 2 p.m. via Kahului, will be augmented with a direct morning jet flight on April 1 (departing Honolulu at 10:05, arriving Lana'i City at 10:25 a.m.).
"This is very good news for the three resort properties on Lana'i -- The Lodge at Koele, Manele Bay Hotel and Hotel Lana'i -- as well as for the business community which serves the Island," said Jennifer Urquhart, vice president of sales and marketing for the island of Lana'i.
With service also provided by Island Air, Lana'i has a combined total of over 100 flights per week, plus the scenic alternative of ferry transportation from Lahaina.
"We are very excited about the new connection between Lana'i and Kona,' said Urquhart, "as it makes it easier for our clientele to travel between Lana'i and the Kohala Coast. "We also think visitors and kama'ainas alike will enjoy the new sunset Dash-7 service on Fridays and Sundays," Urquhart said.
On March 31, a direct morning Dash flight between Oahu and Lana'i is scheduled to go on line.
The island of Lana'i lies off the western coast of the Island of Maui and is the sixth largest of the major Hawaiian islands. Once known as "The Pineapple Island," Lana'i is approximately 13 miles wide and 18 miles long, with ground elevations varying from sea level to more than 3,400 feet. Secluded Lana'i has only 2,400 full-time residents and features miles of untouched beaches.
Two airlines (Island Air and Hawaiian Airlines) currently serve the Island of Lana'i with more than 100 scheduled flights weekly. Expeditions serves the island from Lahaina, Maui with four ferries daily.
