ISIPS Introduces Major Medical Reference Guide at the International Meeting of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology --APIC--.SOUTH JORDAN, Utah South Jordan is a city in Salt Lake County in the U.S. state of Utah. The population was 29,437 at the 2000 census. As of September 1, 2007, the population was estimated at 50,109 [1]. South Jordan has been one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah since the early 1990s. -- A major medical reference guide, The Compendium of Sharps Safety Technologies, written by Dr. Joel S. Rossen and Ron Stoker, Executive Director of the International Sharps Injury Prevention Society, is being introduced at the international conference of APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) A circuit that handles the priority of interrupts in a computer. Designed to support symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), the APIC handles more interrupts and is more flexible than the programmable interrupt controller , the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology in Baltimore, MD, June 19-23. This guide is a combination printed and digital publication featuring hundreds of medical devices that are designed to reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The updated OSHA OSHA n. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a branch of the US Department of Labor responsible for establishing and enforcing safety and health standards in the workplace. Bloodborne Pathogen Standard mandates that employers having employees with the potential of exposure to bloodborne pathogens must have a written Exposure Control Plan to prevent such exposures. The Exposure Control Plan MUST reflect changes in safety technologies and MUST document the evaluation of new safety products. Until now, there has been no central source for an infection control officer to identify and locate the devices they are required to consider and evaluate. To assist medical facility exposure control departments to meet this regulation, this new reference source contains documentation and pictures of over 260 sharps injury prevention and bloodborne pathogen exposure prevention products. It is organized by device category and manufacturer to help healthcare workers find the information they are looking for. Just as the Physicians Desk Reference or PDR PDR A trademark for Physicians' Desk Reference, a group of reference books containing drug listings, especially one for prescription drugs. PDR is the "go-to" book for information on pharmaceuticals, the Compendium has become THE source for safety products that help reduce healthcare worker's exposures to bloodborne pathogens. The Compendium is being sponsored by Premier Safety Institute, ISIPS ISIPS Information Services Integrated Publishing System , AOHP AOHP Association of Occupational Health Professionals , NAPPSI, and Biomedical bi·o·med·i·cal adj. 1. Of or relating to biomedicine. 2. Of, relating to, or involving biological, medical, and physical sciences. Safety Technologies, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol. LLC - Logical Link Control . By using the Compendium, healthcare facilities can quickly gather product information on virtually all sharps safety and blood exposure prevention products. Currently many healthcare facilities are not in compliance with the requirement of reviewing safety technologies because of the extreme difficulty of gathering the necessary product information to decide which devices to evaluate for their safety programs. Finally, over 100 medical device manufacturers are cooperating to keep MedicalSafetyBook.com, the Compendium's companion website, up-to-date with all of the medical devices that have been located or released since the latest release. Medical device manufacturers and MedicalSafetyBook.com are also cooperating to create a one-stop website for infection control professionals to procure samples of all the devices that they decide to evaluate. APIC conference attendees can obtain additional information at the ISIPS booth, 437, located between the booths of Managing Infection Control and Merit Medical Systems, Inc.
