ISI Adds ISDN to Embedded Internet Product Offering.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1996--At NetWorld+Interop this week, Integrated Systems, Inc., and its subsidiary company, Epilogue Technology Corporation, announced the addition of ISDN ISDN
in full Integrated Services Digital Network

Digital telecommunications network that operates over standard copper telephone wires or other media.
(Integrated Services Digital Network Integrated services digital network (ISDN)

A generic term referring to the integration of communications services transported over digital facilities such as wire pairs, coaxial cables, optical fibers, microwave radio, and satellites.
) protocol support to its pSOSystem OpEN (Open protocol Embedded Networking) real-time application development environment.

With the release of the pSOS+ ISDN and Multilink pPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) Development Kits, embedded systems developers can now integrate advanced digital communications into Internet, telecommunications, and financial products.

ISDN is a widely available global telephony technology that supports higher speed and more cost-effective long-distance connections using dial-up lines. ISDN has already proven itself to be fast, reliable, and affordable for a number of applications, including small office/home office See SOHO.  (SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent. ) networking, wide area networking, video conferencing and financial services. It is also being extensively used by PBXs and Wireless/GSM systems as a connective technology to access the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN).

BRI - Basic Rate Interface
(Basic Rate Interface), can typically transmit data five times faster than a normal analog line, which has proven to be a real boon to businesses using dial-up links to access remote networks or the Internet and to consumers who surf the World Wide Web.

) ISDN can provide either 23 or 30 voice/data channels in a trunk configuration that would be connected to a company switchboard, a merchant credit authorization phone bank, or to cellular equipment.

"We have always been committed to providing complete product offerings and comprehensive protocol support for the embedded Internet and telecommunications markets," said David St. Charles, ISI's president and chief executive officer.

"ISDN is an exciting technology that opens up new possibilities to the global market, and ISI ISI International Sensitivity Index, see there  has the unique expertise to bring ISDN to the embedded market. As ISDN applications continue to emerge in telecommunications elsewhere, we feel confident that manufacturers and embedded system developers will turn to ISI to help them bring ISDN support to their real-time computing applications."

ISDN Support for Embedded Internet Products

Adding ISDN support to ISI's pSOS OpEN real-time environment opens up new market possibilities for embedded Internet applications. For example, by adding a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. ) agent to an embedded application, embedded system developers can readily create devices that can be managed remotely, using ISDN connections. Similarly, mission critical applications, such as financial transaction infrastructures or medical systems, can now be equipped with a back-up ISDN link as part of the embedded systems infrastructure.

"This week's NetWorld+Interop exhibition marks Epilogue Technology Corporation's first public showing as a member of ISI's corporate family, and this announcement strengthens ISI's position as data communications and networking Embedded Experts," said David Preston, president and COO of Epilogue Technology Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary Wholly Owned Subsidiary

 of ISI.

"ISI acquired Epilogue last month because of our leadership role in helping OEMs create embedded Internet solutions. Adding ISDN support for pSOS will make it easier for our customers to extend their product reach using digital dial-up access.

"For example, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customers who create embedded SNMP applications using pSOS and Decorum, our new Web-based network management solution, will be able to create devices that can be managed using any HTML-based Web browser and an ISDN dial-up link -- an ideal way to approach remote network management of administering wide area networks."

The pSOS ISDN protocol package is a turnkey solution for worldwide ISDN telecommunications connectivity. The ISDN software automatically senses and configures to adapt to the differences between ISDN implementation in different markets, including National ISDN-1 and EuroISDN.

The signalling software and LAP (Link Access Protocol) drivers can be configured to support both BRI and PRI ISDN connections. Within the ISDN package, ISI provides a new release of its PPP software, which supports Multilink pPP and Bandwidth Allocation Protocol (BACP (Bandwidth Allocation Control Protocol) An IETF standard for adding and dropping the second B channel during an ISDN session. Working in conjunction with Multilink PPP, it enables sending and receiving devices to negotiate the required bandwidth. ) for high performance data communications connections.

ISI has partnered with CoSystems Inc. of San Jose, Calif., whose CoISDN product offers the same features for a Windows and Windows 95 desktop platform.

Pricing and Availability

Three separate pSOSystem ISDN Development packages will be available from ISI, in the fourth quarter. The ISDN package will include all of the components for global connectivity, including the signaling software, LAP drivers, Multilink pPP, chip-level drivers, and sample applications. Separate development kits will be available for developers who only need the LAP drivers or PPP technology. Pricing has not yet been announced.
