CeBIT 2000

HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2000

ISD See IDD.  (Information Storage Devices, Inc.), a Winbond company and the leading supplier of semiconductor voice solutions, today announced the availability of a German language version and the first-generation application development tool for its ISD-SR3000 embedded Inserted into. ISD will demonstrate both North American English North American English is a collective term used for the varieties of the English language that are spoken in the United States and Canada. Because of the considerable similarities in pronunciation, vocabulary and accent between American English and Canadian English, the two spoken  and German language applications of the ISD-SR3000 as well as the new development system at CeBIT 2000 in Hall No. 26, Stand No. E32, Booth No. A-5 and No. A-6 at the USA Wireless & Satellite Pavilion located in the Hannover Fairgrounds n. pl. 1. same as fairground. , Hannover, Germany. The show will be held from February 24 through March 1, 2000.

The ISD-SR3000-DE German language version is the newest in the Simon(TM) series of speech recognition chip solutions. Beginning with the ISD-SR3000, the Simon series ushers in a new era of speech recognition by dramatically changing the way people interface with electronic devices. With the Simon engine, consumers can operate everything from cell phones and voice message machines to handheld devices using their voice instead of complex, keyboard-dependent commands. ISD's technology offers speaker-independent speech recognition with continuous speech and digit input in a cost-effective, embedded solution that significantly reduces manufacturers' cost and time to market.

The German language model of ISD's revolutionary speech recognition product consists of a complete acoustic model An acoustic model is created by taking audio recordings of speech, and their text transcriptions, and using software to create statistical representations of the sounds that make up each word. It is used by a Speech Recognition engine to recognize speech.  plus an extensive word dictionary. The acoustic model is comprised of the sound characteristics that make up a language, taking into account dialects and genders. The ISD-SR3000-DE allows the developer to choose unique vocabularies from the dictionary or define new words through phonetic spelling spelling in phonetic characters, each representing one sound only; - contrasted with Romanic spelling, or that by the use of the Roman alphabet.

Larry Gaddy, ISD's senior product marketing manager for speech recognition products, the ISD-SR3000-DE was developed to address the German market, an early adopter of speech recognition technology. "We're seeing significant interest from Germany, in part due to the country's legislation which makes it illegal to hold a cell phone while driving. In addition, our German customers are very excited about hands-free control of consumer communication devices using speech recognition."

ISD's first-generation application development tool for the Simon series, the ISD-DS3000, helps customers develop speech recognition applications quickly and easily. The ISD-DS3000 consists of a Windows(R) software suite utilizing an Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

The ISD-DS3000 allows developers to design vocabularies, organize the grammar in a hierarchical multiple topic environment and perform real-time testing on a PC. This new development system comes with a sample application, including source code for the voice user interface program.
