IS FINANCE YOUR LANGUAGE?

IS FINANCE YOUR LANGUAGE?

Manchester is the linguistic capital of the UK, according to industry experts, as some of the world's biggest firms are fighting for staff with language skills in the area. Most in demand are people with combined finance and language abilities, following the arrival of several European shared services centres in Trafford Park, Didsbury, Horwich and Manchester city centre. Manchester is in such a strong position because it boasts a number of universities offering highly-regarded language courses and degrees and is attracting linguists from across the country. And this is good news for financial managers, says David Gunning, operations director of Manchester-based recruitment firm HMI Accountability. "The shortage of skilled people with financial and linguistic ability has led to employers paying larger premiums for staff and is encouraging news for any accountants thinking of learning another language."
