IRS ANNOUNCES GOOD NEWS FOR WORKING FAMILIES
 SEATTLE, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- It's the beginning of a new year

-- and in the face of a continuing recession, the government wants lower-income working families to know that they may receive up to $2,020 if they qualify for the greatly expanded Earned Income Credit (EIC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said today.
To spread the word, a workshop for leaders with city and state government and social service agencies will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m., in the South Auditorium of the Jackson Federal Building, 915 Second Avenue, Seattle.
"As one of the nation's more important anti-poverty efforts, the EIC can make a real difference in the lives of many working families," said Gov. Booth Gardner. "In Washington state alone, more than 200,000 families can qualify for this important benefit."
Opening remarks will be given by Dan Lewis, noted broadcast journalist. Speakers will include King County Councilman Ron Sims; the district director of the IRS, Ann Brown; executive director of the Central Area Motivation Program, Larry Gossett; and Scott Barancik, representing the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, D.C.
With assistance from the community agencies, it is expected that $100 million will be brought into the state as working families become aware of the money available to them through EIC.
