IRIS introduces two new models of its urinalysis workstation.ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 1995--International Remote Imaging Systems Inc. (IRIS) announced its introduction of two new urinalysis workstation models at the Clinical Laboratory Exposition being held in conjunction with the annual meetings of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC AACC American Association of Community Colleges (formerly American Association of Junior Colleges) AACC American Association for Clinical Chemistry AACC American Association of Cereal Chemists AACC Anne Arundel Community College ) and the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists (ASCLS ASCLS American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science ) in Anaheim this week. The two new models update current versions of The Yellow IRIS yellow iris irispseudacorus. urinalysis workstation now performing more than 12 million routine urinalyses each year in nearly 300 clinical laboratory sites nationwide. A new and faster workstation, the Model 500, introduces full-color imaging to allow easier differentiation of blood cells and renal casts and enhanced detection of crystals, yeast and other micro-organisms. Other IRIS-exclusive features such as the rapid-read CHEMSTRIP/ IRIStrip photometer Photometer An instrument used for making measurements of light, or electromagnetic radiation, in the visible range. In general, photometers may be divided into two classifications: laboratory photometers, which are usually fixed in position and yield results and test strips and the IRIS Mass Gravity Meter for accurate specific gravity measurement make the Model 500 the most accurate, fastest and easiest-to-use urine-profiling system ever built, replacing the long-established Model 450 version of The Yellow IRIS. A new and faster low-cost Model 300 workstation also replaces the earlier Model 250 version. "With these two models, IRIS continues to set new benchmarks in urinalytical accuracy and productivity," according to Dr. Alan Koontz, IRIS vice president of marketing, "thereby enhancing patient outcome and reducing laboratory test costs, two very desirable benefits for hospitals in today's managed-care environment." A Los Angeles-based company, IRIS is the recognized leader in automated microscopic urinalysis. Its main product, The Yellow IRIS urinalysis workstation, is used by hospitals in more than two-thirds of U.S. medical schools as well as other leading hospitals nationwide. The company recently expanded its urinalysis product line through its appointment as exclusive distributor of CHEMSTRIP/IRIStrip urine chemistry test strips manufactured by Boehringer Mannheim, its purchase of the Biovation digital urinometer urinometer /uri·nom·e·ter/ (u?ri-nom´e-ter) an instrument for determining the specific gravity of urine. u·ri·nom·e·ter n.
