BALTIMORE and FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1996--Information Resource Engineering Inc.(IRE), a leading provider of secure remote access products, and CyberGuard Corporation, a leading provider of network security solutions, today announced a joint Product Development and Marketing Agreement to provide a family of leading-edge complete security solutions including a Virtual Private Networking (VPN) security solution for Internet business communications.

Slated for availability in 1996, this family of security solutions will combine IRE's expertise in encryption technology and central security management, with CyberGuard Corporation's multi-level network security expertise. The strong encryption, user authentication and central management of IRE's SafeNet product line will be combined with the high security, throughput and availability of the CyberGuard Firewall.

Organizations are now realizing they can utilize the Internet with a firewall and encryption solution instead of private networks, which significantly reduces communication costs. As an example, the VPN market is growing rapidly - recent estimates range from 70-100 percent annually through the year 2000. The IRE/CyberGuard VPN solution will provide companies worldwide with an easy to use, cost effective, centrally managed security system optimized for VPNs (use of the Internet as a corporate network replacing expensive conventional networks).
