IRAQ - July 17 - Hussein Promises To Repel Attacks.In a speech marking the 34th anniversary of the revolution that brought the ruling Baath Party The Arab Socialist Ba'th Party (also spelled Baath or Ba'ath; Arabic: حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي) was founded in 1945 as a left-wing, secular to power, Saddam Hussein Saddam Hussein (born April 28, 1937, Tikrit, Iraq—died Dec. 30, 2006, Baghdad) President of Iraq (1979–2003). He joined the Ba'th Party in 1957. Following participation in a failed attempt to assassinate Iraqi Pres. warns the US and UK that he will not be defeated and calls on Iraqis to fight "with valour, chivalry chivalry (shĭv`əlrē), system of ethical ideals that arose from feudalism and had its highest development in the 12th and 13th cent. , patience and resolve". He insists that the regime would emerge triumphant even if all "tyrants and oppressors of the world" were to come together and "invite all the devils as well". |
