IRAQ - Fields' Development.

After the June 1972 nationalisation of the oil industry, development of Iraq's production capacity was achieved through centralised government management, except for the service contracts with Elf-Erap in the Buzurgan-Abu Ghirab fields and with Braspetro in the Majnoon field.

In the late 1980s, as government planners began to realise the need for foreign companies to become involved as partners or service contractors, it was estimated that Iraq would require about $30 bn to expand its oil production capacity to 6m b/d.
