IRAN - Sept. 16 - Tehran Closes Afghan Border.

Tehran says it has sent troops and police to close its 900km-long border with Afghanistan to block an expected influx of refugees Individuals who leave their native country for social, political, or religious reasons, or who are forced to leave as a result of any type of disaster, including war, political upheaval, and famine. . The Deputy Governor of the Khorassan province says: "We will defend our territory and will not let any damage be inflicted on our borders". Iran, which already hosts more than 1.5m Afghans fleeing from drought drought, abnormally long period of insufficient rainfall.
