IRAN - Oct. 23 - Khatami Denies Secret Contacts With Washington.
After briefing the Majlis on the government's 5-year plan, Pres. Mohammad Khatami says: "There are no new developments between Tehran and the United States, and our position towards that country remains the same. The United States has told us everything they wanted to tell us, notably on the current situation in the region, through their usual channels, and there have been no negotiations or contacts behind the scenes". (Last week, The New York Times reported a secret Iranian offer via Swiss diplomats to provide humanitarian aid if needed to US troops - see last week's Recorder).
