IR's New Versatile PWM Control IC Addresses Synchronous Buck Applications with Wide Input Voltage Range from 12V to 75V and Boosts Efficiency.EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- International Rectifier, IR([R]) (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :IRF IRF Interferon Regulatory Factor IRF International Religious Freedom IRF Institut for Rationel Farmakoterapi (German) IRF Inherited Rights Filter (Novell) IRF Inherited Rights Filter ), a world leader in power management technology, today introduced the IR3651, a synchronous PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) A modulation technique that generates variable-width pulses to represent the amplitude of an analog input signal. Like its fixed-width pulse density modulation (PDM) cousin, the output switching transistor is on more of the time for a control IC designed for high performance synchronous DC-DC DC-DC Direct Current to Direct Current (power conversion) buck applications with an input voltage range up to 75V. With programmable switching frequency up to 400kHz, the IR3651 is ideal for a wide range of applications including telecom and base-station power supplies, networking servers, automotive and industrial control. "The IR3651, with a pair of IR's DirectFET[R] MOSFETs, can achieve greater than 88% system efficiency at 48Vin and 3.3Vout at 6A without a heatsink or airflow," said Rami rami [L.] plural of ramus. rami communicantes bundles of nerve fibers connecting a sympathetic ganglion to spinal nerve; categorized as gray rami (unmyelinated postganglionic fibers) or white rami (myelinated preganglionic Hamze, senior marketing manager for IR's DC-DC Computing Products. "Another advantage compared to similar devices on the market is IR3651's higher maximum input voltage rating, enabling a more robust and reliable design," he added. The IR3651 is designed to drive a pair of external N-channel MOSFETs up to 25A. Protection features such as programmable soft-start, hiccup hiccup or hiccough, involuntary spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm followed by a sharp intake of air, which is abruptly stopped by a sudden, involuntary closing of the glottis (opening between the vocal cords); the consequent blocking of air current limit and under-voltage lockout lockout, intentional closing up of a company, factory, or shop by an employer to prevent employees from working during a strike or labor dispute. The term lockout are provided for required system-level reliability in the event of a fault condition. The device also offers synchronization which allows simplified system-level EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices. Allowable limits are governed by the FCC. filter design. The new controller includes a 150V half-bridge driver that allows for considerable design flexibility. For instance, the device may be used in low power (less than 60W) non-isolated DC-DC converters for network equipment as well as high power (greater than 200W) pre-regulator stages in regulated isolated converters. As a result, the IR3651 can be applied to designs for 36V inkjet printers, 28V aerospace applications, 24V electric bicycles, 72V battery systems, 18V wall bricks, 12V secondary-side post regulators and general purpose high-voltage, non-isolated DC/DC converters. Data sheets, online design tools, and demonstration board information are posted on-line. For more information, go to http://www.irf.com/whats-new/nr070208.html. Availability and Pricing The IR3651 is available immediately. Pricing is US $2.00 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Prices are subject to change. The devices are lead-free and are compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive The Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment 2002/95/EC[1] (commonly referred to as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS (RoHS).
