IPEX's Telescopic Expansion Device Streamlines Piping Systems.

A new device that compensates for expansion and contraction in thermoplastic piping systems is simplifying work for designers and contractors. Compared to traditional expansion loops, the new in-line telescopic expansion device (TED) requires significantly fewer components and substantially less space. The device is available in both PVC and Corzan CPVC systems, in sizes ranging from 1/2 in. to 4 in. in diameter.

The telescopic expansion device provides a more cost-effective, straightforward solution according to Fabio Castellani, IPEX's Technical Support Manager. "The problem with conventional designs is that they need more parts; not only does this require much more clearance space, but it also means more design work for the engineer and higher labor costs for the contractor. Because IPEX's TED functions in-line, it streamlines the entire process, offering an elegant solution from both an engineering perspective as well as a financial one."

The expansion device incorporates a piston that extends and retracts to absorb changes in pipe length due to thermal loading. Special self-aligning features include a wide internal piston guide and a triple o-ring seal that render the device maintenance-free.

With the new telescopic expansion device, IPEX is expanding its Xirtec 140 PVC and Corzan CPVC piping systems, which already include a wide range of pipe, fittings and valves.
