The IP Unity MediaXpress MXP1070 converts TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  traffic to IP, allowing communication between the wireless packet based traffic within the UTStarcom iPAS network and TDM traffic from wireline calls. The MXP1070 processor, supplied with complete firmware and board level software, allows UTStarcom to achieve a high-density solution at a competitive price for China market and is being deployed in several test markets across China by China Telecom.

"Our customers such as China Telecom operate wireless access systems based on our PAS and IP-based PAS systems, and we needed a technology that will provide high quality voice transport in IP network at a compelling cost point and scalability that eliminates the needs for traditional TDM switch Refers to either a large-scale switching computer used in a circuit-switched telephone network or to an inhouse PBX that supports circuit-switched lines (the traditional PBX without IP capability). See telephone switch, PBX and TDM. ," said Bill Huang, chief technology officer of UTStarcom. "IP Unity's MediaXpress SoC allows us to offer a high-density solution at a price point that is acceptable to our customers and this type of Softswitch technology is scalable enough to beat the largest TDM switch in the world. It is one of the most cost-effective TDM-to-IP solution available today, and we look forward to our continued application of IP Unity's technology in more deployments in Asia, and around the world."

The MediaXpress MXP1070 processor serves as a bridge between legacy infrastructure and the next generation IP networks, enabling enhanced communication services in today's blended environment. The highly efficient, on-chip RTP/RTCP processor interfaces with industry-standard DSPs for voice, video and data processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a . Each processor manages up to 960 channels (or 32 E-1 lines) of voice, data or video content simultaneously.

"Our two companies share a commitment to enabling service providers everywhere to generate revenue streams from new communications services like conferencing and messaging, by leveraging their existing infrastructures, whether legacy or IP-based," said Arun Sobti, chief executive officer of IP Unity. "This deployment validates our technology, and allows us to offer carriers in Asia cutting edge solutions at an attractive price. We are delighted to be selected by an industry leader such as UTStarcom, and we are committed to developing high quality, cost-effective products geared toward the blended network environment."

IP Unity is currently integrating the MediaXpress into its Harmony6000(TM) Media Server Platform providing a direct TDM interface for the media server platform. Integrating the SoC with the media server allows IP Unity to achieve an order of magnitude A change in quantity or volume as measured by the decimal point. For example, from tens to hundreds is one order of magnitude. Tens to thousands is two orders of magnitude; tens to millions is three orders of magnitude, etc.  reduction in cost per port for deployments in TDM networks, enabling carriers to cost effectively offer enhanced services such as conferencing and messaging. With the IP Unity solution, time to market is drastically reduced, and platform-to-gateway interoperability issues are eliminated. This complete solution enables carriers to offer a wide range of next-generation communications solutions quickly and cost-effectively.
