IONICS RECEIVES ORDER FOR SEAWATER DESALINATION PLANT FOR BERMUDA
WATERTOWN, Mass., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ionics, Inc. (NYSE: ION) announced today that it had received a purchase order from Watlington Waterworks Limited of Bermuda ("Watlington") for a $2.3 million seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility with a capacity of 600,000 gallons per day.
Watlington is licensed by the Government of Bermuda to distribute and sell high quality potable water for industrial, residential and general use through a distribution and pipeline system which Watlington owns. The new desalination system will augment Watlington's existing sources of supply which are derived primarily from the desalination of brackish water using electrodialysis reversal systems previously provided by Ionics. Ionics is the owner of 23 percent of the shares of Watlington.
Ionics has commenced engineering work for the facility. Commencement of manufacturing is expected to begin upon receipt of final approvals from the Department of Planning of the Bermuda government and the execution of an agreement to purchase the plant site. Both steps are expected to be completed in approximately one month.
Ionics is a separations technology company involved worldwide in the manufacture and sale of membranes and related equipment for the purification of water, in the supply of purified water and water treatment chemicals, and in the sale of bottled water and home water purifiers.
