INTERTEL COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES NEW SATELLITE PROGRAMMING SERVICE, 'AEN' DENVER, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Intertel Communications Inc. (AMEX: ITR.EC), through its subsidiary Teleport Denver Inc., announced today it has launched a new satellite program service, the "American Entertainment Network," or AEN. More than 25 broadcast television stations with more than 4.5 million viewers have signed up for the new service. The company said it expects to sign up more than 200 stations and generate at least $3 million in revenue during the next 12 months. "We are doing for the broadcast industry what Sam Walton did in retailing," said W.W. "Bill" Becker, president and chairman of the board of Intertel. "We intend to serve the 'underserved' broadcast markets in North America...the more than 1,800 full power independent stations, affiliated network stations and low power stations who need more quality programming. Our potential audience is more than 90 million households." Becker said AEN is a venture between Teleport Denver and Jade Pointe Productions Inc. of Tampa, Fla. "We are offering quality programming and putting together various national advertising packages to support our programming." Becker said the programming includes exclusive rights to a 4,700-title film library, which includes name movies, classic serials and children's programming, sports events and first-run syndication features. The new service is being delivered 24 hours a day on Galaxy 6, transponder 17, from Teleport Denver's Technical Operations Center in Englewood, Colo., a suburb of Denver. "We are utilizing the sky instead of traditional methods of physical delivery of programming," explained Becker. "Our goal is to gradually introduce better and better programming," explained Peter J. White, vice president - Jade Pointe Productions. "We are positioning AEN as a quality programming service that can be integrated into existing programming lineups across the country." AEN is a new corporate subsidiary of Teleport Denver, combining the company's satellite uplink facility and programming rights of Packy Syndications, an affiliate of Jade Pointe Productions. Teleport Denver also has completed a 115-mile fiber-optic network around Denver that includes high-capacity fiber-optic rings in three metropolitan business parks and downtown Denver. The network provides voice, video and data communications services. The company's strategic intent is to create an international gateway, providing end-to-end global connectivity through its fiber network and teleport facility. -0- 7/23/92 R /CONTACT: Gordon Blankstein of Intertel Communications, 800-667-4366/ (ITR) CO: Intertel Communications Inc.; Jade Pointe Productions Inc.
