INTERSPEC INTRODUCES NEW ULTRASOUND SYSTEM -- APOGEE CX200

INTERSPEC INTRODUCES NEW ULTRASOUND SYSTEM -- APOGEE CX200
AMBLER, Pa., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Interspec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISPC) today announced the introduction of its newest ultrasound system, the Apogee(R) CX200, at the annual meeting of the American Society of Echocardiography.
The Apogee CX200 offers several new technologies to advance the application of ultrasound to cardiovascular diagnosis. "The Apogee CX200 represents a major opportunity to greatly expand our presence in the hospital cardiac ultrasound market," said Edward Ray, Interspec's chairman and chief executive officer.
 Among the system's features are:
-- Digital Archival -- the system stores images in a digitally instead of only in the older, analog videotape. Digital archival stores images with greater clarity and allows the physician to retrieve and display the achieved images so that a patient's echocardiograms taken at different points in time may readily be compared simultaneously on the same screen. "By providing within the instrument, a simple, accurate method, of accessing data from different points in a patient's treatment, decisions about patient care will be improved in a significant way. This permits the cardiologist much better use of the vast amount of information obtained in an echocardiogram in an efficient and cost-effective way. This will be an important capability for the hospital's echocardiology department as well as in critical care settings such as the coronary care unit, the emergency room, operating room, and the post-surgical suite as well as in the stress laboratory," said Ray.
-- Multiplane Transesophageal Probe -- The Apogee CX200 also features Interspec's new multiplane transesophageal (TEE) echo probe. This probe scans from inside the esophagus and offers a full 360 degrees view of the heart. Conventional transesophageal probes offer only one or two scan planes. "Early clinical results are demonstrating that multiplane TEE provides important patient information and allows the diagnosis of conditions that may be missed with conventional probes," said Ray. Interspec's new miniature multiplane TEE probe's small size permits easier insertion of the probe and improved patient tolerance. The probe is in clinical evaluation and will be available at a later date.
-- Image Quality -- The Apogee CX200 also offers advances in system image quality and resolution. It incorporates new hardware and software advances in color flow mapping for the detection of blood flow. Included are continuous, three dimensional electronic and focusing, ultra-wide bandwidth, multi-frequency transducers, and the largest high resolution monitor in the industry.
"We believe the Apogee CX200 meets all of the requirements, and more, of a high-performance hospital system. We expect the system to be widely adopted by hospital cardiologists because of its outstanding images, Doppler, color sensitivity, digital archival, multiplane transesophageal probe and tremendous versatility. We are in production now and customer shipments are expected to begin within the next 30-60 days," said Ray.
Interspec develops, manufactures, markets and services medical ultrasound systems, probes, transducers and related accessories and supplies. It is a leading supplier of transducers and probes to manufactures of medical ultrasound systems.
