INTERSIL DEBUTS ELECTRONICS VOLTAGE REGULATOR FOR LCD PC.Intersil (Nasdaq:ISIL), a provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, has introduced a system electronics regulator designed for use in liquid crystal display (LCD) PC applications. A member of the Endura(TM) family of power management devices, the ISL6235 integrates three pulse width modulator (PWM) controllers and two linear regulators into a single 24-pin SSOP package providing five regulated voltages for LCD PC system electronics. Intersil's computer power management devices efficiently regulate CPU and system electronics energy usage. The latest Endura device delivers a highly integrated, multiple-output controller that simplifies design, reduces component count, increases system efficiency and lowers total layout size. The ISL6235 offers the highest level of linear and PWM controller integration in the industry. "Intersil's Endura power management devices address the demands of computer designers and the ISL6235 directly contributes to the successful implementation of LCD applications," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Analog Business Unit. "PCs with liquid crystal displays are becoming a trend with PC manufacturers, particularly in Asia. These desktop PCs are often only powered from an AC-DC wall adapter providing between 16V and 20V. The ISL6235 accommodates this high voltage input and converts to the system voltages required in the PC." The Endura ISL6235 PWM delivers up to 97 percent efficiency, directly affecting the overall efficiency of the system. Additionally, the device enables lower-cost N-channel metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) to be deployed in lieu of P-channel MOSFETs. By reducing the number of components required to manage the system's power, the ISL6235 further lowers the cost of the entire system while reducing the physical size of power control circuitry. Pricing, Packaging and Availability Intersil's Endura ISL6235 is immediately available in a 24-lead SSOP package. In 10,000 piece quantities, the device is priced at $2.66.
