INTERSECTIONAL: ALEMANY'S HERRINGTON WINS OPENER.


Quarterback Billy Rojas capped an eight-minute drive by scoring on a 1-yard sneak with 51 seconds remaining to give host Alemany of Mission Hills a 30-26 victory over San Fernando.

Alemany couldn't celebrate until Gabe Camarillo intercepted a pass by Rashaad Reynolds at the Alemany 10-yard line as time expired.

That gave a sigh of relief to Dean Herrington, who recorded the victory in his coaching debut for Alemany. The touchdown capped a big night for Rojas, who completed 9 of 14 passes for 120 yards and touchdown and rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries.

Ryan Williams finished with 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns for San Fernando.

Harvard-Westlake 42, Van Nuys 0: John Howe passed for 93 yards and two touchdowns to lead Harvard-Westlake (1-1) over Van Nuys (0-2) at Valley College.

Ryan Calvert returned a 69-yard punt for Harvard-Westlake's first score and the Wolverines never looked back.

Howe finished with touchdown passes of 12 and 31 yards and also rushed for 74 yards on seven carries. Terhon O'Neal rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown.

El Camino Real 14, Calabasas 13: Calabasas' two-point conversion attempt with six minutes remaining failed and host El Camino Real held on to extended the Coyotes' losing streak to 33 games.

Calabasas led 7-0 when Kevin May connected with Matt Field on a for 41-yards in the first quarter.

Matt Zusman scored on a 16-yard run and David Mahoney caught a 5-yard touchdown from Glenn Coppola for a 14-7 lead in the fourth.
