INTERPHASE ANNOUNCES NEW FDDI AND SCSI-2 CAPABILITIES
 FOR SUN CLIENT SERVER NETWORKING
DALLAS, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Interphase Corporation today announced new versions of its industry leading FDDI network and SCSI-2 mass storage controllers for Sun SPARCservers (TM). The controllers are part of a full line of Interphase high performance solutions for Sun, including NC 400 and 600 NFS (TM) Network CoProcessors, the new fiberHUB 1600 FDDI concentrator and the serialHUB M250 Ethernet terminal server.
The V/FDDI 4211SN Peregrine and V/SCSI-2422OSN Cougar come bundled with software, documentation and utilities for easy installation into the SPARC server 470,490 and 600MP series. These high performance products provide Sun users with 'plug and play' versions of the highest performance FDDI and SCSI-2 products for SPARCservers. Drivers for both controllers support SunOS (TM) 4.1.1 and 4.1.2.
"With the new FDDI and SCSI-2 solutions from Interphase, Sun users and systems integrators can build the 'Superservers' they need for efficient client server networking," said Tom Kent, Interphase marketing vice president. "They provide the highest performance available for FDDI networking and SCSI-2 subsystems in an easy to install package. And, they are backed by Interphase expertise in Sun server and network design."
Standards-compliant and certified for interoperability, the V/FDDI4211SN Peregrine is the most widely used FDDI controller for VME systems. The RISC-based controller performs FDDI networking and station management operations that ordinarily consume CPU power. With the Peregrine, a SPARCserver may dual attach directly to an FDDI ring, or single attach to a ring through a concentrator such as the fiberHUB 1600.
The latest SCSI product from the VME market leader, the V/SCSI-2 422OSN Cougar supports up to 14 of the newest SCSI-2 devices, each at speeds of 10 Megabytes per second. Devices supported include SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 disks; 1/4 inch and Exabyte tape, DAT tape and magnito optical devices.
In addition, the Cougar's differential mode supports external storage devices. With that capability, high end SPARCservers can be configured with sophisticated storage such as RAID disk arrays, to meet demanding client-server application requirements.
For even further SPARCserver design flexibility, future versions of the 4220SN will soon be available as a multifunction controller, with support for SCSI-2 and Ethernet.
The 4211SN and the 4220SN are available in July. Single unit list price for the single attach 4211SN is $9,595; dual attached version is $11,595 and $12,345 with an optional integrated optical bypass switch.
Single unit list price for the 4220SN is $3,500 for a dual channel configuration, and $2900 for a single channel configuration.
Pricing includes support for 90 days.
Interphase Corporation, based in Dallas, is a leading supplier of high performance networking and mass storage controllers for open systems. The company sells to computer OEMs, systems integrators, Value Added Resellers and end users through a worldwide sales network.
