INTENSIVE CARE NURSE NOMINATED FOR FIRST HOSPITAL HERO AWARDS.Byline: Daily News VALENCIA -- Sheri Chessani, a nurse and clinical coordinator at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, is the hospital's nominee for the first National Health Foundation Hospital Hero Awards. The honor notes outstanding achievements in medical centers within the region that the Hospital Association of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Besides her leadership and clinical skills, Chessani was cited for her expertise in handling the heart-wrenching situations that arise in the ICU. ``Sheri puts the needs of the patient and family first,'' said Dee Rickett, Chessani's supervisor. ``She always does the right thing and is gifted at helping patients die with as much dignity and as little pain as possible. ``Because she's an expert clinician clinician /cli·ni·cian/ (kli-nish´in) an expert clinical physician and teacher. cli·ni·cian n. and sensitive to the emotional, social and spiritual aspect of a patient's life, Sheri's never afraid to address end-of-life issues.''
