INTENSITY LACKING FOR MOORPARK; TEAM ADVANCES, BUT BIG LEAD CAUSES LAX PLAY.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

A step backward in quality of play wasn't enough to prevent the Moorpark Little League Major all-stars from moving forward.

Moorpark advanced to the sectional tournament by beating Northside of Oxnard 15-3 for the District 13 championship Thursday at Moorpark.

Continuing to advance could be difficult, however, if Moorpark extends the lackadaisical lack·a·dai·si·cal

The significance of the three runs given up to Northside are just as important to Moorpark coach Mike Hiserman.

``We have to keep getting better every game,'' Hiserman said. ``When we jump on someone early, we can't let up and take it for granted, which is pretty much what we did today. This wasn't one of our better games. Previous to this, we had played better every game.

``Once we got seven runs, they lost the intensity. That's what happens when you're 12 years old; they're not professionals. When you get a seven-run lead when you're 12, you think that's it. I don't think we'll face those type of games too much anymore, though.''

The sectional tournament starts July 24 in Pismo Beach.

Today's games:

Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  needs to win one of two games today to repeat as District 13 champion. Matthew Ricatto is the probable starter for the undefeated team.

Thousand Oaks has been off since beating Sunset 12-1 on Tuesday while three other teams spent the rest of the week playing for the other spot in the final at Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. . If Thousand Oaks loses the first game at 10 a.m., another game is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Big League: Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  lost one of its top pitchers but picked up a player who could provide what was considered the team's one missing link.

The first chance to see the effects of the move can be seen when the defending world champions open the sectional tournament at 3 p.m. today in Tehachapi against District 50.

When the Conejo Valley roster was recently finalized See finalization. , hard-hitting Brian Lipman took the spot of pitcher Chris Cordeiro.

``He's the big power hitter we've been missing,'' coach Mike Sheehan said of Lipman.

Lipman became eligible after Simi Valley was eliminated from district play. He was known for his hitting and as a first baseman/designated hitter at Royal High, but he has also pitched this summer. Cordeiro opted not to continue with the team because of other overlapping commitments, such as the Area Code games.

Cordeiro's absence means more work for his Thousand Oaks High teammate Tracy Goebel and Newbury Park graduate Tyler Johnson Tyler Johnson (born June 7, 1981), is an American baseball player born in Columbia, Missouri.

Johnson spent most of the 2006 season with the Cardinals' minor league team, the Memphis Redbirds, but appeared in 56 games and pitched 36.1 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals.

``He's the one that'd put us over the edge,'' Sheehan said.

Conejo Valley received little competition during district play, going 9-1 with a forfeit To lose to another person or to the state some privilege, right, or property due to the commission of an error, an offense, or a crime, a breach of contract, or a neglect of duty; to subject property to confiscation; or to become liable for the payment of a penalty, as the result of a . If Conejo Valley wins today, it plays Tuesday for a spot in Thursday's final. A loss would require advancing through the losers' bracket, starting with another game Sunday.

``I think we're gonna hit,'' Sheehan said. ``We're gonna play good defense. The only thing that's up in the air is pitching. You never know what's going to happen with the pitching.''
