INSURANCE CO. SALE.
The Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society has sold its 70%
ownership interest in Trident Insurance Co. Ltd. to a group of
Barbados-based investors and the Commonwealth Development Corp., reports
The Sunday Sun (March 28, 1999). Trident CEO Algie Leacock, who will
continue in that position, confirmed the sale. He added that Cooper Gay
Holdings Ltd., one of Britain's largest reinsurance brokers, was
the other major shareholder in Trident (about 30%). Trident has been
operating in Barbados for more than 25 years and offers property, motor
and marine insurance.
