INSTEEL 3-D BUILDING PANEL FOUND IN COMPLIANCE BY U.S. REGIONAL
BUILDING CODE AUTHORITIES; CODE ACCEPTANCE IS OBTAINED IN MEXICO
MOUNT AIRY, N.C., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Insteel Industries Inc. (AMEX: III), one of the nation's largest wire products manufacturers, announced today that the Insteel 3-D(TM) building panel, manufactured by the company's Insteel Construction Systems subsidiary, had been reported as in compliance with construction standards required by all of the nation's regional authorities for building code evaluation.
Recognition of compliance, said Howard O. Woltz, Jr., Insteel chairman, was contained in NER No. 454, dated Jan. 1, 1992 and covers use of the 3-D panel in construction of concrete buildings and walls. The report was prepared by the National Evaluation Service of the Council of American Building Officials. Its issuance signifies that the panel meets requirements of the Model Code Group in the United States, which includes the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), the International Congress of Building Officials (ICBO), and Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA).
"This report," Woltz said, "means that the way has now been cleared for Insteel 3-D to be utilized in construction throughout the nation. Builders who have been testing our panel in various applications can feel free to move ahead with their projects."
Woltz also announced that Insteel 3-D had been accepted as in compliance with building codes for Puerto Rico and the Mexican states of Baja and Sonora. "Interest in Central and South America and the Caribbean has been running high," he said. "The product is now being used in a major condominium construction program in Antigua, and negotiations are under way for various other ventures in these areas."
The Insteel 3-D building panel consists of two parallel sheets of welded wire reinforcement connected by diagonal truss wires that pierce an insulating core of expanded polystyrene. Completed panels are very light, weighing about one pound per square foot.
The building method involves attaching the panels to a concrete foundation and then connecting the panels to each other with wire mesh. Following erection, the panels are concreted on both sides to produce a continuously reinforced concrete wall. Insteel 3-D is easy to deliver, handle and install. It shortens construction time, thereby reducing cost. The process requires only limited training and no expensive specialists in brick or masonry.
A highly versatile construction system, Insteel 3-D is being used in the building of low-cost and luxury homes, commercial structures, and a wide variety of governmental and institutional buildings. One application is in the construction of "boot camp" correctional facilities, which use inmate labor to provide on-job training and to sharply defray taxpayer expense.
Insteel Construction Systems manufactures Insteel 3-D in a new plant at 2610 Sidney Lanier Drive, Brunswick, Ga.
Insteel Industries, Inc., one of the nation's largest wire products manufacturers, produces welded wire reinforcement, high and low carbon industrial wire, galvanized fencing products, nails, specialty wire fabrics, and Insteel 3-D building panels.
