INPUT ON SUNSHINE DUMP A FINAL HURDLE WATER BOARD PLANS JULY 24 VOTE ON 55-MILLION-TON GRANADA HILLS SITE.

The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Regional Water Quality Control Board will hear public comments Wednesday on the proposed water permit for the Sunshine Canyon Landfill expansion over the county line into Granada Hills.

The water permit is one of the last regulatory checks that Browning Ferris Industries needs before it can launch the first phase of a 55-million-ton dump it plans to develop on 205 acres near the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. Board staff will review the proposed expansion at the public meetings, as well as take questions and comments on the project.

The water board will vote July 24 on the permit application.

The permit documents outline the compliance history of the landfill.

Ultimately BFI wants to join the new city dump with the existing county dump to make one giant landfill capable of holding 90 million tons of trash.
