INFORMS Announces Inductees into Newly Created Edelman Academy; Academy Honors 35 Years of Franz Edelman Award Winners: A Who's Who of Achievement in Operations Research.


HANOVER, Md. -- The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) is an international society for practitioners in the fields of operations research and management science.  (INFORMS(R)) today announced inductees into the Franz Edelman Academy, which recognizes and honors Franz Edelman Award winners from the 35-year history of the international competition. As the founding year for the Academy, INFORMS will induct in·duct

Each year the Franz Edelman competition recognizes outstanding examples of Operations Research operations research

Application of scientific methods to management and administration of military, government, commercial, and industrial systems. It began during World War II in Britain when teams of scientists worked with the Royal Air Force to improve radar detection of
 (O.R.)-based projects that have transformed companies, entire industries and people's lives. O.R. uses advanced analytical methods to make better decisions and is a disciplined way to improve almost any business situation in nearly any type of organization in the public or private sector.

Organizations that have received the Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in O.R. in past years will be given up to three Academy seats which will be dispersed among the company's C-level executives and the teams responsible for implementing the award-winning work. The induction and medal presentation will take place during a VIP reception and gala dinner during this year's Franz Edelman Award competition on Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Hotel InterContinental in Miami, Florida “Miami” redirects here.
