IN MEMORIAM.

Blanche Louise Novacek

We regretfully announce the death of long-time ACEI member Blanche Louise Novacek. Blanche worked as a teacher for several years in Idaho, Washington, and Samoa. She also spent many years as a producer-writer for Public Education Television. She retired from the Tacoma Public Schools.

In addition to her membership with ACEI, she was a lifetime member of the National Education Association.

Gladys Anderson

Long-time member Gladys Anderson passed away last April in Oneonta, New York, at the age of 81. Anderson began her career as an elementary teacher in Ohio. In 1962, she started her tenure as a professor of childhood education at the State University College at Oneonta, where she stayed until her retirement in 1985. Anderson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, and held many offices, in the United Methodist Women's Society.

A Retired Member-At-Large, Anderson served the New York ACEI Branch as Secretary in 1997. In addition to her involvement with ACEI, Anderson was a member of many education-related organizations, including the New York State Teachers' Retirement System, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Honorary Society for Women Educators, the National Education Association, and the American Association of University Women.

Bernice Siporksi

Long-time member Bernice Siporksi of South Bend Indiana, has recently passed away. A member since 1984, Siporksi began her teaching career in 1960 and worked as a teacher in the field until her retirement in 1980.

2000 Elizabeth Breathwaite Mini-Grant Award, Winners

Jean Schifferns and William Fitzhugh were recipients of the 2000 Elizabeth Breathwaite MiniGrant Award. Both of their projects will be highlighted in future issues of the ACEI Exchange.
