MERGER VOTE: More than two-thirds of those voting in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) is a performers' union that represents a wide variety of talent, including actors in radio and television, as well as radio and television announcers and newspersons, singers and recording artists (both royalty  approved a proposed merger with the Screen Actors Guild. About 40 percent of the 28,311 ballots mailed out to AFTRA AFTRA American Federation of Television & Radio Artists  members were returned while about 40,000 of SAG's 98,375 members voted. BIG DEAL: Van Nuys-based Cherokee Inc. signed a long-term licensing deal with Japan-based Itochu Corp., a general trading company with offices in 90 countries and operations that cover a spectrum of industries. Itochu will manufacture, promote and sell products bearing the Cherokee brand in Japan. Terms were not disclosed. Cherokee markets and licenses Cherokee and Sideout brand clothing, luggage, cosmetics and footwear products.

SHARES SOLD: In-line skate wholesaler Veriflex Inc. said shareholders agreed to sell back to the company a total of 371,279 shares during a self-tender period the company sponsored and which ended Jan. 20. The company agreed to buy the shares at a price of $6 each. Veriflex shares closed up 25 cents Wednesday at $5.625.
