VALLEY INDEX RISES: The Daily News/Bloomberg Index rose 0.77 to 128.25, led by Guitar Center Inc. of Agoura Hills and Chatsworth's Natrol Inc. Guitar Center rose $2.25 to $23. Natrol rose $2.0625 to $11.3125.

GOOD TIME: Time Warner Inc. said it will split its shares 2-for-1 after the stock rose 63 percent during the past year because of Chairman Gerald Levin's push to cut costs and boost revenue at the world's largest entertainment company. The new shares will be issued Dec. 15 to shareholders of record Dec. 1, increasing outstanding shares to about 1.2 billion. The announcement drove Time Warner stock up as much as 7.1 percent to a record $106.50.
